On October 25 (or 26 if you’re across the pond), W&W aka Ward van der Harst and Willem van Hanegem will be taking to the decks of BBC Radio 1′s infamous Essential Mix for what is sure to be an explosive edition of the world’s favorite mix show.
This Dutch DJ/production duo, sitting pretty at #14 on the DJ Mag Top 100, is known for transcending the boundaries of genre by combining the uplifting and melodic elements of trance with the raw intensity of electro and progressive characteristics of house to create a sound uniquely their own. Tonight’s Essential Mix will be no exception, and you can expect an infectious, rebellious, and highly energetic mix to be delivered in full force.
W&W recently released a massive collaboration with Hardwell in August on Revealed Recordings in the form of the epic “Jumper.” Their single “Thunder,” which was released in May, entered the DMC Buzzchart at #1 and has quickly become one of the most talked about tracks in dance music.
Additionally, the Mainstage Music label heads’ smash single “The Code” is one 2013’s most popular having entered the DMC Buzz Chart at #1 and spending over two weeks at #1 on the Beatport Main Chart. It was also considered by many to be the track of WMC/MMW. W&W followed it up with “D#Fat” (with Armin van Buuren) and a remix of Armin’s “This Is What It Feels Like;” both of which received significant plays on the world’s biggest stages.

The Revealed Recordings boss and boundary-pushing producer, Hardwell, releases the teaser for the long waited collaboration track with Dutch shooting duo W&W, “Jumper”, due out this Monday August 5th. With the whole world watching, Hardwell has been undertaking a rapid transformation into the influential mega-star that he initially set out to be with only the power of music in his grasp. While opening his Tomorrowland liveset of last weekend with ‘Jumper’ and being named one of the absolute highlight sets of the 3 day festival with already over 1 million views in under two days http://youtu.be/ZG1AT6tylA4 Hardwell maintains his world-class output and demonstrates why he has been gaining so much attention.
His fellow Dutchmen, W&W, have also been on top of their game this year with releases like the Beatport chart-topper “The Code,” released on Revealed Recordings so it was a simple decision to enlist them as collaborators for “Jumper”. Paired together while touring, they have created a Summer festival anthem that will be heard on main stages, at clubs, and everywhere in between.
Hardwell, alongside W&W, unravels yet another anonymous highlight from his landmark Ultra Music Festival set back in March. As you would expect from the union of two undisputed titans of the Dutch house overhaul, “Jumper” brings three of the nation’s most capable young club advocates together for a new and powerful precedent in the sound of modern dance music. A grinding electro anthem dealing in bursts of subtle melodic euphoria, “Jumper” keeps the adrenaline high from start-to-finish. The track not only emphasizes the leaps and bounds both Hardwell and W&W have taken over the years, but also the unprecedented stamina still found in Revealed’s ascent of the peak time skyline. One things for certain — this is an anthem with digital market domination written all over it.

From the National Anthem to the seventh-inning Stretch to occasional post-game rock concerts, music and baseball have a long-lasting relationship. But on July 5, the Philadelphia Phillies will embrace America’s EDM fanatics by hosting Dutch DJ duo W&W for a set after their holiday weekend game against division rivals, the Atlanta Braves.
“We know it’s a little unusual, but two of the most passionate fan bases out there are dance music and sports,” Phillies Director of Marketing and Special Projects Michael Harris told Billboard. “So [we thought], ‘let’s try to blend them together for a unique event.’”
W&W have built up a steady following which has exploded in the last year as they’ve released a series of original tracks and remixes imbued with their trademark Dutch house sound, designed for peak-hour play. This kind of festival crowd appeal caught the attention of the Phillies. The team was looking for an “A” act that would stand out from typical Major League fare. W&W’s management company, Red Light, reportedly “jumped at the opportunity and recognized immediately the value in trying something new and unique.”
At the end of the July 5 home game, all ticket holders will be invited to Citizens Bank Park’s Ashburn Alley entertainment area where they can listen to a 90-minute set from W&W. The Phillies will also offer fans a $5 discount on all available tickets on its website, making the cost of admission to the game and show as low as $12.
“We’re always looking for ways to make [the park] more festive and more fun, so we thought ‘let’s try something new,’” Harris said. “The macro point of this is to create something for our fans to do after the game is over. The ballpark really is a destination spot and a fun place to hang out.”
The Phillies have enlisted local nightclub Soundgarden Hall to aid with the production and promotion of the event. The team anticipates W&W’s own popularity to attract a larger-than-usual crowd, especially for a post-game event. While the space can accommodate a few thousand attendees, Harris says the team would be satisfied with an intimate showing of 1,000-1,500. (The stadium’s capacity, by comparison, is just shy of 44,000.)
“What kind of crowd we’re expecting is kind of hard to predict,” Harris said. “It is a holiday weekend which presents some challenges, but at the same time there’s a lot going on in Philadelphia on July 4, it’s a very popular game, and we can’t be overwhelmed.”
As every baseball fan knows, one factor beyond the Phillies’ control is the weather, which has the potential to disrupt plans entirely. Still, organizers are hopeful that the uniqueness of the event and the possibility of a balmy Philadelphia summer night will be enough to get people to stick around after the last inning.
“This is not going to be a typical EDM event,” Harris adds. “We realize it’s a little out of the box — but hopefully that’s part of the appeal.”
